About the French Institutes For Advanced Study Fellowship
The French Institutes for Advanced Study at Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, and Nantes all offer 10-month scholarships. It invites proposals from top-tier worldwide academics and scientists, mainly in the social sciences and humanities (SSH).
The French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship is offering 17 fellowship places in Paris for the academic year 2022-2023. At the Paris IAS, fellows’ projects might be in any subject or theme in the social sciences and humanities (SSH). They must have a strong interdisciplinary component and strive to make a significant advancement in their topic or methodology.
The ability of proposed projects to make apparent their potential impact beyond their discipline/field, and possibly outside academia, is an important selection consideration. Projects that address societal concerns or provide novel insights into the functioning of persons and societies will be given priority.
Projects at the intersection of SSH and the cognitive and neuro-sciences are also welcome at the Paris IAS. The program on “Brain, Culture, and Society” would want to focus on the following three subjects in particular:
Future minds: the societal consequences of technological and medicinal approaches of cognitive augmentation; Psychomotor organization and the regulation of behavior (impulsivity, inhibition); City design and the brain: a dialogue between architecture and neuroscience.
The IAS will provide support and a conducive scientific environment for the French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship fellows, who will be part of an interdisciplinary cohort of fellows working in close proximity to the local research potential. The fellows will have complete autonomy over how they arrange their work and conduct research.
- Open to outstanding researchers of all career levels, from postdoctoral researchers to senior scientists.
- The minimum requirement is a Ph.D. + 2 years of research experience at the time of the application. The exception will be made for scholars with a Master + 6 years of full-time research experience after the degree (Ph.D. training will not be considered in the calculation of experience).
- Researchers from all countries are eligible to the French Institutes For Advanced Study Fellowship Program but they have to have spent no more than 12 months in France during the three years prior to the application deadline.
- Applicants for a fellowship in Paris must provide a letter of collaboration with member(s) of a university or research institution based in France, signed by a member of the institution (faculty, researcher. It does not necessarily have to be the head of a research unit). Preference will be given to projects conducted in cooperation with the partners of the Paris IAS (Sorbonne Université, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3, Université de Paris, Université Paris Nanterre, Université Paris-Saclay, EHESS, EPHE, ENS, FMSH, INALCO). Applicants must contact their local collaborators themselves, the Paris IAS will not create connections for the applicants.
All IAS have agreed on common standards, including the provision of a living allowance (min. net €2,700 per month), social security coverage, accommodation, a research budget, plus coverage of travel expenses.
