Flinders University in Collaboration with the Australian Government is inviting applications from postgraduate students around the world to apply for its AGRTP Scholarships.

About the AGRTP Scholarships

The scholarship was created to support international students undertaking a Higher Degree by research in Australia. The AGRTPS scholarships include an international tuition fee offset, a living stipend, and Overseas Health Care cover.

The AGRTP Scholarship can be used towards a Research Doctorate degree for up to three years and a Research Masters degree for up to two years. Successful applicants must be full-time students who are starting a higher degree by research for the first time in Australia.

The AGRTPS is given to individuals who have shown exceptional ability in independent research. Academic merit, academic research training, and research indicators and performance are all taken into account when selecting AGRTPS. Each year, a limited number of AGRTPS (up to 5) are available, and the scholarship

Eligibility Criteria
  • AGRTP Scholarships applicants must satisfy the University’s academic entry requirements for a Masters degree by research or a Doctorate by research.
  • Applicants must have achieved a degree that is at least equivalent to or comparable to an Australian First Class Hons degree (this is a four-year degree with a major research project in the final year)
  • At the time of application, applicants must have met Flinders University’s English proficiency criteria for overseas students. Students who do not speak English as a first language will be required to show proof of their English language proficiency.
  • Applicants must not hold a comparable research-based Higher Degree. Only students starting a Higher Degree by Research in Australia for the first time are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must not be residents of Australia, have permanent residency status in Australia, or be citizens of New Zealand. Full eligibility criteria can be found in the attached award terms.
  • Applicants who wish to begin a full-time research-based higher degree program.
Benefit
  • The AGRTPS pays Flinders University’s international student tuition fees for a Higher Degree by Research.
  • The AGRTPS includes an overseas tuition fee offset, a tax-free living allowance of $28,854 (2022 rate), which is increased annually, and Overseas Health Care coverage.
  • An AGRTPS student moving to Adelaide from another country is eligible for an establishment allowance of up to $1,485 (after arrival at Flinders) to help with relocation fees and airfares, provided receipts can be supplied.
  • The AGRTP Scholarships allow eligible applicants to begin a full-time research-based Higher Degree.

Application Procedure

Applicants who are interested in applying for an AGRTPS or FIPRS must first apply for admission to a Higher Degree by Research (PhD or Master of Arts by Research) and then apply for foreign scholarships through the Student Information System, as directed on the official webpage:

  • You do not need to apply for admission to a Higher Degree by Research if you already have a valid offer.
  • After submitting your admissions application, you will receive a welcome email with your FAN to your selected email address.
  • Applicants can get their FAN and activate it at https://activate.flinders.edu.au/main. You need a FAN to log into the student system to lodge your application for the scholarship.
