The Gotham Writers Workshop is currently seeking entries for its Honest Holiday Haiku Contest in 2024. During the festive season filled with joy and merriment, let’s acknowledge that not all moments are merry. In the spirit of embracing both Scrooge’s skepticism and Santa’s generosity, we encourage you to compose a genuine holiday haiku. Share your frustrations about the perennial gift of itchy socks from your great aunt or reflect poetically on a Valentine’s Day misadventure.

Just a friendly reminder: a haiku follows a structure of five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. The author of the most sincere holiday haiku will be awarded a Gotham class of their choice.
Benefits of Honest Holiday Haiku Contest
- Gotham will post the winning entry at GothamWriters.com
- The winner receives a free Gotham class of their choosing, excluding any premium classes (Zoetrope Fiction, Business Writing, Level III)
The Honest Holiday Haiku Contest winner will be notified by March 18, 2024
Submission Procedure
- Submit an honest holiday haiku
- Entries must adhere to the haiku form
- Entries must be submitted online by 11:59 pm Eastern Time, Thursday, February 29, 2024
- Only online entries will be accepted.
- Entry is free. Limit one entry per person.
- The entry must be original and unpublished.
Note: Entries will be judged on originality, quality, spelling, and grammar.
