About the Canon Student Development Program
The Canon Student Development Program went digital for the first time in 2020. The virtual event was attended by 230 students representing over 40 nations from over 100 institutions and universities.
The 2020 program was packed with online talks, webinars and virtual portfolio reviews, with some of the most influential names in the world of photography.

250 students will be selected to have their portfolios examined by professional photographers as part of the Canon Student Development Programme in 2021. Send your portfolio right now for a chance to make your professional debut.

Eligibility Criteria
The Canon Student Development Program is open to any university student enrolled in an educational institution for the academic year 2020 to 2021.
Selection Criteria
Entry criteria
Submit a digital portfolio with a maximum of two stories and include up to twenty fully captioned images, with an accompanying synopsis or description. Applicants will need to include details of their school, institute or university, along with a short photographer’s bio and if possible, a letter of presentation by their teacher, professor or editor. Applications close on the 9th June 2021.
Choosing the students
- A dedicated panel of industry experts will review the portfolio submissions and select participating students by the 16th June.
- On the 18th June, 250 students will be notified and asked to confirm their participation by the 30th June.
- Event guidelines will be sent to the participating students in July. These guidelines will help the selected students prepare their portfolios, ahead of the group reviews, during the online event in September 2021.
Secure your place
Selected students will need to provide proof of identity. Evidence of enrolment in the academic year 2020-2021 or accreditation by agencies and magazines.
This needs to be submitted by the 30th June 2021.

Each student will partner with a professional mentor between July and August 2021, for two online portfolio preparation sessions.

During webinars, Canon Ambassadors will present their work and gripping experiences to offer inspiration and advice.
- Online lectures
Canon will host online lectures with leading photojournalists and editors to share their vision over industry trends. Become pro ready.
