Onikawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) Japan is currently calling for applications from International graduate students for it’s 2021 scholarship award session.
The Onikawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) is known to accept about 60 full time graduate students per year. This ensures low numbers of students for each faculty member so that we can deliver best-in-the-world teaching for our graduate program. The basic requirement for the OIST Graduate Program is completion of a Bachelors, Masters or equivalent degree prior to the admission date. Students may submit an application at any time. Your application will be considered at the next admissions committee meeting. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the next possible Admissions Workshop, held at OIST, as part of the selection process.
Candidates are considered for admission without regard to gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, medical condition, race, ethnicity, ancestry, culture, national origin, religion, or marital status. OIST Scholarship Application Requirement
- Completion of a Bachelors, Masters or equivalent degree or;
- Candidates who will complete their degree before the date of enrollment.
Required Documents for OIST Scholarship
- Transcript and Diploma:
- Candidates are expected to upload a scanned copy of a current transcript or a completed diploma in PDF format, also an English translation of transcripts or diploma not written in English.
- A scanned copy of an unofficial transcript or other record of grades may as well be uploaded to the application website.
- Interested applicants that haven’t graduated are expected to upload a scanned copy of their current institution enrollment certificate indicating expected graduation date.
- Applicant’s Statement:
- This should be not more than 400 words and should address the following points:
- The applicant’s scientific interest and aspirations
- What the applicant wishes to gain at the end of the graduate studies at OIST.

- Passport:
- Candidate must ensure to have a valid passport.
- Submit a passport number and upload a scan of their passport photo page.
- Recommendation Letter:
- Each candidate is required to have a minimum of two and more than five recommendation letters because it is very helpful for the admission committee to have three or more letters.
- OIST strongly recommends that applicants should try to ask academic referees in advance for permission to list them as recommenders. Referee comments are very helpful and are part of the selection process and all applicants must ensure they submit recommendation letter before the stated deadline.
- Proof of English Proficiency:
- Applicants seeking admission into OIST scholarship on the basis of qualification from a university for which uses another language to teach other than English is required to upload a scanned copy of an official TOFEL or IELTS score obtained within the last two years.
- NOTE: no minimum score stated.
Optional Documents: the following documents may be submitted optionally, and will be taken into consideration by the selection committee if available:
- Additional evidence of academic ability such as GRE general or specific test scores obtained within the last 2 years.
- Additional material such as the title and abstract of publications and oral presentations, and other evidence of achievement.
