The United Nations University Office of the Rector seeks exceptionally qualified individuals to serve as Junior Fellows at its headquarters in Tokyo. These positions are filled through a rigorous and competitive application process held biannually.

About the United Nations University Junior Fellows Internship Programme
The core principles of the United Nations University Junior Fellows Internship Programme at the Office of the Rector revolve around fostering a vibrant, stimulating, and enriching environment for graduate-level students and early-career professionals. Selected participants will actively contribute to the endeavors of the Office of the Rector, the United Nations University, and the broader UN framework. This program facilitates the cultivation of fresh skills and insights, offering a distinctive and impactful platform for the hands-on application of expertise gained through academic pursuits.
Eligibility Criteria
The Junior Fellows Internship Programme is open to applicants who are:
- currently pursuing or have recently completed (within two years of application) postgraduate studies (master’s or doctoral), preferably in a field related to the University’s work;
- under 32 years of age at the time of application;
- don’t have more than 5 years of work experience in their related field;
- have a native or fluent command of written and spoken English;
- excellent in research, writing, and analytical skills;
- able to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from diverse backgrounds;
- resourceful and creative in problem-solving;
- have advanced computer skills: sound, hands-on, knowledge of MS Office applications (familiarity with ICT tools and a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel are desirable);
- have demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and more specifically, in the work of the United Nations University.
NOTE: The internship is approximately 4 months (16 weeks).
- Expected start date: 12th August 2024
- Expected end date: 20th December 2024
Benefit
The United Nations University Junior Fellows Internship Programme will provide successful applicants with the following:
- Interns who do not receive financial assistance from external entities, such as universities or other institutions, will be provided a stipend by UNU to help cover essential living expenses throughout the internship period.
- The monthly stipend amount will be determined according to the prevailing rates at each duty station.
- Stipends will be disbursed monthly, with adjustments made for part-time internship arrangements based on a proportional calculation.

NOTE: Applicants will need to complete the following tasks:
- Answer a few questions that are tailored to the position.
- CV: Attach a current and complete CV in English (where it says to upload the P11 Form). Your résumé or c.v. may not exceed two single-sided pages.
- Cover Letter: Insert your Cover Letter (in English) as required, stating your interest in and qualifications for the post. Your cover letter should not be longer than one single-sided page and should include the following: i. your motivations for applying to the programme; ii. how you feel you may contribute to the work being done at the Office of the Rector; iii. how this programme relates to your future career goals.
