The World Bank Africa Fellowship Program, launched in 2013, seeks young, outstanding Africans who have recently earned their PhDs or are about to do so in a field related to the organization’s activities.
The 2023 World Bank Africa Fellowship Program expects to host up to 15 fellows. This year, a private sector window with funding from the Think Africa Partnership supports 10 extra fellowship positions with a focus on the growth and finance of the private sector. The extra 10 fellows will strive to strengthen the macroeconomic, business, and financial frameworks in order to increase private sector investment, improve economic policy formulation, and ultimately foster regional economic growth.

The program provides selected fellows a six-month placement at the Washington, D.C., or country offices of the World Bank Group (WBG) to get practical experience with the organization’s operations. This entails creating and disseminating knowledge, creating national and international policies, and creating institutions to promote inclusive growth in underdeveloped nations.
Fellows will focus on research, economic policy, technical assistance, and loan operations that support the World Bank’s mission of eradicating poverty and promoting shared prosperity while also gaining from research and innovation in a variety of industries.
