About the ACEP NextGEN Leaders Program for African Youths
The Next Generation Resource Governance Leaders Program is a six-month internship that aims to balance theory with real-world application and equip participants with the necessary multidisciplinary intellectual development, practical skills, and research abilities to solve complex governance challenges in more innovative ways.
The ACEP NextGEN Leaders Program also serves as a strategy for developing a pipeline of young pan-African leaders to ensure that good governance is maintained in the long run.

The program aims to train and nurture young people in an enabling working environment through a structured capacity development process. Transformational leadership development, professional and career development, and digital communication and technology skills will all be covered.
Interns will be exposed to the tools and assistance needed to define and attain realistic personal and professional goals, as well as well-rounded and ethical leadership training, in addition to technical resource governance training. The tenure for the internship will be from July 2022 to December 2022.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for the ACEP NextGEN Leaders Program must be young Africans who have a passion for ensuring that Africa’s tremendous extractive resources lead to sustainable and inclusive development. Candidates must possess:
- Relevant academic qualifications, preferably in economics (including energy), engineering (petroleum/electrical), oil and gas management, public policy, law, political economy, development studies, development finance, project management, communications, statistics, and mathematics, among other fields.
- Excellent writing skills, with clarity and a logical flow of ideas.
- Knowledge of relevant qualitative and quantitative analytical tools is essential (R, Stata, Eviews, NVivo, Atlas.ti, etc.)
- Multitasking, prioritizing, and meeting many deadlines are all skills required.
- Interpersonal skills and a sense of belonging are important.
- The ability to think creatively and solve difficulties on one’s own initiative.
- He or she has a strong sense of ownership and accountability for his or her decisions and actions.
- Good leadership qualities.
