Applications for the Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan African Masters Scholarship 2024 are now open. The scholarship is available to individuals who are citizens and residents of a designated list of Sub-Saharan African countries recognized by Bartlett and have obtained admission to a master’s course at Bartlett.

About the Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan African Masters Scholarship

The Bartlett Promise is a sustained initiative aimed at enhancing diversity in the built environment sector by attracting and supporting students from diverse backgrounds. The scholarships, now in their second year, provide financial coverage for fees, living expenses, and study costs, along with ongoing professional and personal support and career guidance throughout the program. Currently, the scheme benefits 21 UK undergraduates, 13 Master’s, and 4 PhD students, thanks to the generous contributions from esteemed donors such as Jestico + Whiles, Derwent London, and the Aziz Foundation.

Eligibility Criteria

The Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan African Masters Scholarship aims to enable students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in The Bartlett to pursue postgraduate studies at The Bartlett, UCL’s Faculty of the Built Environment. For the Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan African Scholarship, candidates must:

  • Be a national of one of Bartlett’s approved list 2 of Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries and resident in an eligible SSA country
  • Must not hold British or dual British citizenship
  • Have an offer of admission to a Bartlett Master’s course for study in 2024–25 which is either unconditional or conditional only on the English language
  • Be in financial need as assessed by UCL

In addition to these, candidates should ideally also meet at least one of the additional criteria:

  • Be a forced migrant
  • Be the first generation in the family to attend university at the undergraduate level
  • Be the first generation in your family to attend university at the postgraduate level

Note: We will consider your educational, personal, and financial circumstances. You will need to demonstrate these in your application. An assessment of applications will be made according to the eligibility criteria.

Benefit

Full overseas tuition fees and an annual allowance of £16,008 to cover living and study expenses for the normal duration of the program at UCL.

In addition:

  • A flight to or from the UK,
  • UK Study Visa costs, English language assessment costs, health test costs, and the NHS Immigration Health Supplement charge.
  • All Promise scholars will also receive ongoing academic and career support during their studies.
Application Procedure

To qualify for the Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan Africa Master’s Scholarship, applicants must have received an offer for a place in a Bartlett master’s course. Candidates thinking about applying for the scholarship for the 2024–2025 school year should look through the department-organized Bartlett master’s courses and choose their fields of interest

The Bartlett Promise application form will open on February 15, 2024, and close on April 3, 2024, at 23:45 BST.

The selection panel will assess applications for the Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan Africa Master’s Scholarship based on the data submitted on the scholarship application form and the details discussed with the Windsor Fellowship. The assessment of applications will be conducted in alignment with the specified eligibility criteria. Only candidates who have received an offer are eligible to apply.
