The Nelson Mandela World Moot Court Competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all universities worldwide. Teams of two students from every university in the world are invited to submit heads of argument for a fictitious human rights case. Gender diversity is encouraged.

The 50 teams that received the highest memorial grades are invited to the preliminary oral rounds at the UN’s Geneva headquarters, where they will present their cases to judges of international tribunals and human rights experts.

The Moot Court Competition hosts the world’s biggest gathering of scholars, students, and judges who are interested in the subject of human rights. All students worldwide are eligible to enter the competition. The competition is open to teams of two students from each university, ideally with one woman and one man.

The Nelson Mandela World Moot Court Competition is open to undergraduate and master’s degree students from all institutions of tertiary education in the world.

NOTE:

The Fifteenth Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition adopts a hybrid format, with the in-person final rounds scheduled to take place at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland from 18 – 21 July 2023 and the preliminary virtual rounds (online) scheduled to take place from 20 – 27 May 2023.

Application Procedure

Registration has two stages:

Stage 1: Faculty Registration:
Individuals must register their faculty’s institutional information in this phase, along with the team leader’s contact information. Such a person could be the faculty representative, or in the absence of a faculty representative, one of the team members.

Stage 2: Individual registration:
Each of the two oralists, along with the faculty representative (if applicable), must register during this phase in order to provide their information. The 50 chosen teams are the only ones who can register individually.
