To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Have applied for and meet the entry requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne, or be currently enrolled in a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne

Selection Criteria


All domestic students admitted to a Masters by Research or doctoral degree (PhD) program at the University of Melbourne are entitled to receive a Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset).

The University of Melbourne Research Training Scholarship is granted to domestic and international students based on academic excellence, providing both a stipend and a fee offset. Eligible candidates undergo assessment and ranking based on their academic performance in their most recent completed degree and their potential for research within their respective fields. Additional considerations such as previous completion of a degree at the same level as the research program, relevant professional background, published works, specialized medical qualifications, or original music compositions may also be considered.

Benefit

University of Melbourne Research Training Scholarship (Fee Offset)

  • Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.

University of Melbourne Research Training Scholarship (Stipend and Fee Offset)

  • Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.
  • Living allowance of $37,000 per year pro rata (2024 full-time study rate) for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to 3.5 years for students undertaking a doctoral degree. The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity and, parenting leave.
  • Relocation grant of $2,000 for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3,000 for students moving from outside Australia.

Application Procedure

If you have applied for admission to a graduate research course by the application closing date for that course, you do not need to apply for this scholarship. Within seven days of submitting your course application, you will receive confirmation that you will be automatically considered for various graduate research scholarships.

If you have deferred the start of your graduate research course to the next academic year after receiving an offer, or if you are presently enrolled in a graduate research program and are applying for a scholarship, you must complete an online application form.
