The UNESCO International Literacy Prizes has begun accepting applications for its 2022 session and all champions in the field of literacy learning are encouraged to apply while nominating bodies to get ready to support and nominate their best applicant from around the world.

UNESCO will honor six individuals or organizations for outstanding projects that promote literacy learning, as it does every year, and this year’s edition is themed “Transforming literacy learning spaces.”
UNESCO International Literacy Prizes| Eligibility Criteria
The UNESCO International Literacy Prizes is open to all governments, non-governmental organizations, and individuals who contribute to the promotion and advancement of literacy learning through projects and programs are eligible to apply.
Benefit
Every year, UNESCO awards two prestigious literacy prizes to six laureates in order to promote and support the development of effective literacy practices around the world and advance the literacy agenda in order to close the literacy gap of approximately 773 million people:
- The UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize (three awards) was established in 1989 and is supported by the Korean government. It pays special attention to programs that promote literacy development in the mother tongue.
- Each winner of the UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize receives a medal, a diploma, and a cash prize of US$20,000.
Apply Now: Tongarewa Scholarships at Victoria University of Wellington 2022/23
- The UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy (three awards) was established in 2005 and is supported by the Chinese government. This award honors programs that support adults in rural areas and out-of-school youth by promoting literacy, including functional literacy, through the use of technological environments.
- A medal, a diploma, and US$30,000 are awarded to each UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy winner.
